The leadership and members of the DTHA Staff and Friends for Sheriff/Onyeme 2027 have commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for making history with the institutionalization of the 13th-month salary for public servants in Delta State.
The Delta State House of Assembly had on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, passed the Executive Bill seeking to give statutory backing to the payment of 13th-month salary, following its third reading at plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor.
Reacting to the development yesterday shortly after plenary, the Chairman of the group and Secretary of the Delta State House of Assembly Service Commission, Barr. Austin Uwasike, said Governor Oborevwori has etched his name in gold as the first Governor in Nigeria to institutionalize the 13th-month salary through law.
Speaking with _Credible Media Reporters_ in Asaba, Barr. Uwasike described the development as a bold and compassionate demonstration of the Governor’s unwavering commitment to workers’ welfare and his M.O.R.E Agenda.
According to him, the Bill, which has now placed the annual payment on a firm legal footing beyond discretionary pronouncement, is a testament to Governor Oborevwori’s worker-friendly disposition.
“As staff and friends of the Delta State House of Assembly, we are direct witnesses to this historic feat. This is not just about extra salary, it is about dignity of labour, certainty for families and motivation for greater productivity. Governor Oborevwori has shown that workers’ welfare is not a slogan but a policy,” he said.
He noted that the passage of the Bill, championed by the House under Speaker Guwor and initiated by Governor Oborevwori, further validates the decision of their group to mobilize massively for the Governor’s second term in 2027.
Barr. Uwasike added that the DTHA Staff and Friends for Sheriff/Onyeme 2027, which has resurfaced as a formidable grassroots support group ahead of the 2027 elections, will take the message of the Governor’s landmark achievements to all 25 local government areas of the state.
He said members of the group are energized by the Governor’s respect for the independence of the legislature, prompt payment of salaries, and improved working conditions across the state service.
He congratulated public servants in Delta State for being beneficiaries of the first statutory 13th-month salary framework in Nigeria, and assured that the group remains steadfast in its support for the Oborevwori administration.
